I Ain't No Kinda Artist

I ain't no kinda artist
It's obvious to me
I can't paint anthrax paintings
Espressoism... who he?

My head gets all a-jumble
With all the words they got
It makes me want to rumble
And defend the thing I got

Humility flys out the door
Whenever I go in
And even though they talk the talk
to me it seems a sin.

I would've gone to art school
To me it cost a lot
Until I learned they make you do
some stuff I'd rather not

I like to paint the pictures
I like to write the words
But I ain't no kinda artist
I'd rather be a nerd.

A nerd can go about his day
Just doing what he do
But an artist got to toe the line
and join the Captain's Crew.

Now I don't blame the artists
for giving me the boot
But I won't be reconstructed
And I don't give a hoot
I aint no kinda artist, me, but even if I don't know nothin' about art, I know what I like!

I love this! I agree with the whole "I'd rather not" thing about art school. (well school in general but that's a different can of worms) Some of the stuff my friends did was rather... well... I'm just glad I didn't waste money on it. Besides, this whole "I've been to art school," crap is a load of bull. I didn't know there was a right or wrong way to do art. I thought the whole point of art was expression, not grades. :XD:

(but you are an artist to write something this awesome imo.... just sayin')

Shucks....to be an artist you don't have to make art...you just need to know how to talk about it, then do whatever you want (within the current fashions). If I need a laugh I go read some art commentary. The trick is to say something so confusing that people will agree with you rather than look ignorant. Oh, and throw in a couple of French words at strategical places, because all culture emanates from the continent.

Example: "I have tried to adjust the retrolinear sub-text as a protest of reactionary symbolism. C'est tout!"
In saying this raise your nose high in the air and chuckle a little before saying reactionary symbolism. Effect an accent not Irish, Scotch, any American dialect or Australian.

:lmao: NICE :XD:

Seriously, some people think they're stinking gods of art or something. Anytime I see some jerk on the D.A (or anywhere else for that matter) talking down to some starting artist like they're 'all that' I picture some pubescent teenager just trying to raise their own depleted self-esteem.

They (the snobbish artists) are inclined to talk down to everyone except people holding the purse strings. Without sounding too crude I hope, I'm inclined to reply: "Who the f..k are you? Get away from me you freak!" There's nothing like a garbage mouth reply to the sophisticated superior types. They don't expect that in the Higher Circles.

Hahaha, that would have been interesting. You probably handled it nicely. I'm hoping that someone else set the woman straight later on.

I tend to use the garbage mouth technique only with aggressive males of any stripe. It may be sexist. The truth is I have very little patience with those who consider themselves superior to me or anyone else, but different people get treated in different ways.

I don't consider it sexist... different tactics work on different people. Just a fact of life. I don't like that attitude either . I did have to tame my tongue an awful lot when I used to work in the *ahem* customer service (fast food and retail) industry. That's where I've seen the rudest people. I've been cussed out and told things about my mother that I didn't even know. :XD: Ugg people... sheesh.

I had to shun the art world in Boston and locally in NC when I moved South. Boston was snobbery. Here it was politics.

I had an art show in Boston once, and the girl that supposed to do it with me refused to have her work shown in a the same place as mine. So on one side I put my happy werewolf paintings and pretty girl portraits, on the other side some abstracts and surrealist stuff. Some woman of high taste approached me and said "I understand you painted those abstracts." I agreed. And she followed, with some disgust "who's that other artist? Doesn't he or she know that realism is passe?" I assured her I'd pass it along to the "other" artist.

Uggg, don't you just love that? People are so ridiculous. I mean seriously, why bother opening up that mouth if you're just going to use it for bringing people down?

Most of the pretense that goes with being an artiste disturbs me, but sometimes I think it's not my busiess to fight what other people want to do.

And in your company as an artist I am quite content. I guess when artists start forming militias with causes that engender contempt for others its time for me to jump-ship. I find no room in art for allegiance to any given politics, religion or outside influence. Those who try to control it internally are even more suspect...because they theselves are inevitably puppets of one of those outside forces. In the word of William Wallace and the American of yesteryear: Freedom!

Strictly between you and I and anyone else, I'm getting a little bit paranoid, thinking that some of the things I've written lately have caused some people to shun me, which only bothers me in the case of people I like and value. Do you think this is true? (For example, 'Be a Marine,' which reflects something of my past. That's why I asked you to speak. An Austrian friend said I should note some people, so think of this as a note (I doubt anyone's plowing this deeply into comments and to be honest I don't mind saying what I think or what I am.
I had a rather dark past, but I summon either my cat or Sukeile to testify on the current stae of my character! And your one of the people I think of as a ray of hope in an otherwise dark world.

I'm...a ray of hope? How sweet!:D And I really liked your marine poem...nothing you write has made me want to shun you. Don't feel paranoid:hug: I think there's room in everyone for a little darkness.

Thanks....now I'm less paranoid. I did have someone dispappear a response I sent them. I can probably guess why, and I'm disappointed that it happened, but I would not myself go back on what I said.
Sometimes people might only be giving lip-service to their respect for honesty; then again, I can be less than civilized being honest....and in this case I was defending the person! Or as David Bowie once wrote and sang: "The shame was on the other side."
